    September- Books about Starting School & Easing the Transition 

    Preschool Day Hooray! by Linda Leopold Strauss and illustrated by Hiroe Nakata paints preschool as a fun place, one where there is lots to do and friends to be made.

    The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn is a story about Chester raccoon, who is nervous about going to school. His mother kisses his palm and tells him that whenever he feels lonely, he can press his hand to his cheek and his mom will be with him all day, even when she is physically away.

    Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney is about little Llama on his first day of school. At the beginning of the day, Llama is sad and misses his mamma. By the end of the day, Llama has made new friends and has learned how much fun school can be. This story is great for teaching about the schedule of the school day, and for discussing what to do when we miss someone.
